MT. DAMAVAND ( 5671m ), A VOLCANIC PEAK

Mount Damavand the highest mountain in Iran, has for centuries attracted mountaineers, nomads and legend to its snow-covers slopes. The epic hero Fereydon wrestled with and defeated the evil giant Zahak, chaining him to a cave on the mountain peak. Villagers living near the base of the volcano still remark that Zahak is straining to be free at the first signs of smoke or rumblings often hear deep within the mountain. On a clear day, the 18550-foot cone is visible from Tehran, 50 miles away.

Length: Between 52 to 57 35' eastern of Greenwich meridian
Width: between 35 49' to 36 5' northern of equator

There are lots of glaciers in Damavand, the most important of these glaciers are:
- Dobisel and Sioleh glaciers in the north, - Yakhshar glacier in the east

Damavand has 8 main routes and a number of side routes to climb, its main routes are:
- Southern route, - Northern route, - Eastern route, - Western route, - Western north route, - Western south route, - Eastern south route, - Eastern north

In the altitude of 4100 m in southern route there is a refugee or shelter which is known as Bargah-e-Sevom. In the altitude of 4000 to 5000 m of Eastern north route there is a refugee called Takht-e-Fereydoun and in the western route in the altitude of 4000 m there is a newly western established refugee.
The suitable time for climbing Damavand is from 01 June to 22 October. It lasts 4-5 days to climb the peak in summer from western and southern routes.

** Visiting Places in TEHRAN: (Day 2)

- Bazaar: Is the largest commercial center of the city with several Caravansaries, old buildings, Imam Mosque, Motahari (sepahsalar Mosques- School.
- Archaeology Museum: A rich collection of several thousands of Iranian culture and civilization. These works are shown in two parts; Pre-Islamic Era and Islamic era - Carpet Museum: A collection of the most costly and precious Iranian carpets.

** Visiting Places in SHIRAZ: (Day 8 - 9)

- Shah Cheragh Shrine: A magnificent building famous for its mirror-work
- Eram Garden: A typical of Iranian garden and a remarkable example of Persian gardening art.
- Nasir-ol-molk Mosque: An exquisite sample of ornamental paintings.
- Pasargade: the capital of Cyrus the Great, the tomb of this king is there.
- Perspolis: (Now known as Takht-e-jamshid) It is one of the greatest artistic legacies of the ancient world, dating back 550 BC.

** Visiting Places in ISFAHAN: (Day 10 - 11)

- Ali-Qapu Palace: an impressive six-storied edifice with fine wall paintings & plaster work
- Sheikh lotfolah Mosque: Is one of the Isfahan's greatest & most exquisite historical monument; its mosaic tile ornamentation all combine to make this monument a true architectural masterpiece.
- Imam Mosque: The art of tile-working is very evident in this monument.
- Chehel Sotoun Palace: A magnificent building with some very fine murals in the palace and a small museum, beautiful mirror-work & stucco-work decorate the palace.
- Bazaar: A traditional Bazaar from which the visitors can see & buy the most beautiful handicrafts of Iran.
- Si-o-se-poul & Khajou Bridges: These two impressive bridges are built on Zayandeh Roud river which divides Isfahan into two parts.
